Accounts and pages on social media platforms circulated reports claiming that large military reinforcements belonging to the Syrian army, comprising machinery, vehicles, and dense numbers of personnel, had arrived in the Al-Qusayr area and the border strip with Lebanon, accompanied by a security alert and the deployment of artillery pieces.

The Kashaf team contacted a source in the Internal Security Directorate in Homs Governorate to verify the circulating reports about a military alert on the Lebanese border. The source categorically denied the existence of any unusual military or security movements or any deployment of artillery pieces in the Al-Qusayr area or the border strip. The source affirmed that the field situation in the area is proceeding in its normal, usual manner without any change.

Why is this claim misleading?

Fabricating reports and falsifying the field reality: The circulating posts deliberately fabricated reports about massive military movements and an alert, and the deployment of heavy weapons (artillery), in sensitive border areas, and described the government forces as “al-Jolani gangs,” with the aim of stirring anxiety, panic, and apprehension among the area’s residents and falsifying the security reality on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
