About Us

We verify with evidence, not opinion.

Kashaf is an independent fact-checking and investigative journalism platform. We put circulating claims to the test and publish our evidence in full — with a public methodology and a transparent corrections policy.

01 — OUR REASON

Our Mission & Vision

01
MISSION

Trustworthy content that restores credibility to the news

To provide trustworthy, clear and impartial content that restores credibility to the news and reduces the impact of misleading information.

02
VISION

A trusted Arabic reference for debunking rumors

For Kashaf to be a trusted Arabic reference on Syrian affairs for verifying news and countering rumors, extending its coverage to related Arab issues, within a knowledge environment grounded in transparency and professionalism.

02 — INDEPENDENCE

Independence & Transparency

Our editorial decisions are entirely independent, and our funding is disclosed as far as possible.

Editorial independence

We are committed to keeping editorial decisions fully independent, with no influence from supporters or funders over:

  • the selection of claims;
  • the verification tools;
  • the ratings or the wording of conclusions.

Funding & financial transparency

In line with transparency standards and procedural-trust criteria, we disclose on our site (as far as possible and subject to safety considerations):

  • the categories of our funding sources: grants / institutional support / donations / training services / in-kind support;
  • our governance principles and the separation of financial management from editorial decisions;
  • how to contact the editorial team.

We accept support under the following conditions

  • the funder has no right to influence editorial work or to review conclusions before publication;
  • no condition that steers ratings, blocks corrections, or imposes an agenda;
  • respect for source confidentiality and team safety, and no request for sensitive data;
  • a written agreement guaranteeing independence and the separation of funding from editorial work;
  • public disclosure of funding to the extent possible without putting anyone at risk.

What we do not accept

  • any funding conditioned on specific outcomes or on targeting particular parties;
  • any support that limits the platform's right to correct, apologize, or retract material;
  • any funding that conflicts with our principles against incitement and hatred, or that requests sensitive data.

Conflict of interest

The Kashaf team is committed to disclosing any potential conflict of interest related to a fact-check, and such cases are handled under internal procedures that may include reassigning the task or widening the review.

03 — TRANSPARENCY

Funding structure

We believe financial transparency is the cornerstone of trust. Here is how we are funded.

Founding stage $3,000

The platform launched on self-funding from its founders, used to cover the initial technical costs: building the website, designing the visual identity, and the core subscriptions to digital verification tools.

Human resources

Volunteer effort

At its launch and through its early growth, Kashaf relied on the volunteer efforts of a team of journalists and technologists who believe in the need for an accurate information environment.

Current funding

Unconditional grants

We rely on community contributions and unconditional grants. All donors sign a declaration not to interfere in editorial policy, and their identities are disclosed to regulators to prevent any conflict of interest.

04 — OUR CHARTER

Editorial Independence Charter

We declare our commitment to the following principles to protect our professional integrity and editorial independence.

01

Full separation of funding from editorial work

No grantor, donor, or supporting party may view investigations before publication, review them, or request changes to them.

02

Independence in choosing content

The editorial team, under the supervision of the fact-checking director, holds sole authority to choose topics and set priorities based solely on significance and reach.

03

Impartiality of conclusions

Conclusions are reached on the basis of evidence, material indicators, and scientific method, free of any external pressure or dictation, whatever its source.

04

Preventing conflicts of interest

Members disclose any potential conflict of interest, and no member may fact-check material that could touch their personal interests or direct professional relationships.

05

Rejecting conditional funding

We categorically reject any financial contribution in exchange for steering content, withholding information, or changing verification outcomes in favor of any party.
