Pages on social media circulated a report claiming that the Syrian government launched a large financial-incentive program to encourage Kurds affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to return to the Tal Abyad area in the Raqqa countryside.
Kashaf’s team traced the circulated report by contacting two officials in the Tal Abyad area and Hasakah province who are responsible for the field and administrative file in the region on 14 June 2026, in order to establish the truth of these announced figures and programs. The two sources denied the existence of any decisions, plans, or government programs that include providing the mentioned financial incentives, affirming that this circulated information is not based on any official announcement or executive measure on the ground.
Why is this claim misleading?
News fabrication: No official Syrian government body issued promises of financial grants or transportation and reconstruction costs for those returning to Tal Abyad.
