Accounts on social media circulated a report claiming the United Arab Emirates had suddenly closed its embassy in Damascus, suspending all consular transactions and relocating its staff.
The circulating claim was traced and verified through direct contact with the relevant authorities, where an official source at the Damascus Media Directorate denied what was being circulated, confirming there is no closure of the embassy or suspension of its consular work. The verification also showed that the same claim had previously circulated in April 2026 in similar wording and was denied then by official sources, before being reposted recently without any new information or supporting evidence. As for the image attached to the claim, it was found to be circulating in a low-resolution version that does not allow for a conclusive visual or technical verification of its source or original context.
Why is this claim misleading?
Recycling rumors: The posts relied on reposting old, unverified information from unreliable sources, with no official data or confirmation from the relevant authorities to support the claim.
