Accounts on social media circulated a video that its posters claimed shows a person putting a question to Atef Najib about a sum he would pay to be smuggled out.
The fact-checking team traced the clip by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse search on them, alongside tracing its original source and comparing the circulated content with the previously published version. The check showed that the original video was published on 26 April 2026 by media figure Yaman al-Sayed, and that the question actually put to Atef Najib in it was an ordinary greeting, not the wording in the circulated clip. The audio was found to have been manipulated and added to the original video, altering the content of the clip and taking it out of its true context.
Why is this claim misleading?
Digitally altered content: The audio track was manipulated and attached to a genuine video of a real person, in order to make viewers believe an incident occurred that was not in the original recording, which makes the circulated clip misleading.
