Accounts on social media circulated a video claiming it documents columns of the Syrian army, backed by tanks and armoured vehicles, storming the city of Nawa in the Daraa countryside, after a number of Syrian government personnel were expelled from the city.

A still from the circulating clip attributed to the storming of the city of Nawa in the Daraa countryside

The Kashaf team verified the claim by converting the video into still frames and running a reverse search on them, and found that the clip dates to 08/01/2026 and documents the Syrian army's deployment in the Al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods of the city of Aleppo, during the battles against the "SDF" forces at that time.

Why is this claim misleading?

Footage from an earlier event in a new context: Presenting scenes from earlier battles in the city of Aleppo as documenting the storming of the city of Nawa in the Daraa countryside moves the event from its original time and place, and suggests a development on the ground in the Daraa countryside that the footage does not show.
