Accounts on social media circulated a video as showing an Israeli flag raised in the centre of the city of Al-Hasakah in support of Israel's policies toward Syria.

The fact-checking team verified the video and its meaning by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse search, and found that the video was published on 26/09/2017 and shows celebrations marking the referendum on the Iraqi Kurdistan region, where the Israeli flag was raised to celebrate the Israeli occupation's support for the independence referendum.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and geographic context: An earlier video of an Israeli flag being raised in Iraqi Kurdistan was recirculated and stripped of its time and place by claiming it was filmed in Al-Hasakah, suggesting to the reader that there is local support in the city for Israel's policies toward Syria.
