Pages on social media circulated a video clip whose publishers claimed it was recent, and that it documented the Syrian flag being lowered and burned inside the official directorates in the city of Aleppo.

The fact-checking team traced the clip digitally by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search on them, which showed that the video dates back to an incident in which the Syrian flag was lowered in the city of Kobani on 10 August 2026, and that it is neither recent nor filmed in Aleppo as the circulating posts claimed.
Why is this claim misleading?
Republishing an older video in a different context: The claim rested on an earlier clip filmed in the city of Kobani and attributed it to the official directorates in Aleppo, in order to suggest that the incident had widened and reached state institutions in the city.
