Accounts on social media circulated a video clip as documenting protests against the Syrian government and a full civil disobedience in the city of Maarat al-Numan in the southern Idlib countryside.
The Kashaf team verified what the video shows by breaking it into still frames and running reverse searches, and found that the video was published on 22/04/2016 as showing protests against Jabhat al-Nusra in the city of Maarat al-Numan.
Why is the report misleading?
Out of temporal context: A video clip dating back to 2016 was republished out of its temporal and topical context, since it was published at the time as showing protests against Jabhat al-Nusra in Maarat al-Numan, not protests against the current Syrian government.
