Accounts on social media circulated a report claiming that the head of the diplomatic security branch in Homs, Mahmoud Tayyara, was killed during a clash with a "General Security" patrol that tried to arrest him in the al-Zahra neighbourhood over corruption and morality cases.
The Kashaf team verified the report of Tayyara’s killing through keyword searches and a review of official Syrian accounts and websites, and found a clarification from the Directorate of Cases and Disciplinary Proceedings at the Ministry of Interior to Al-Ikhbariah Al-Souriah, which said that Mahmoud Tayyara is in its custody and is under investigation for administrative violations relating to financial files.
To obtain more precise information and details about the reasons for Mahmoud Tayyara’s detention, the Kashaf team contacted a source in Syrian Internal Security but had received no answer by the time of publication.
