Pages on social media platforms circulated a claim alleging that the entry of the Syrian security forces into Talaie camp in Hasakah was temporary and for training purposes only, implying that the province is in effect still under the control of the Kurdish forces.

The circulating claim

The fact-checking team reviewed the statement of the deputy governor of Hasakah, Ahmad al-Hilali, and it emerged that the deployment of Internal Security personnel at Talaie camp and on the outskirts of the city of Qamishli falls within a plan to fill the security vacuum and to meet field needs in the province, with that presence to be reinforced later by road security personnel on the main routes.

Al-Hilali linked this step to the vision of the Syrian state and the Ministry of Interior, following the announcement by Mazloum Abdi on 25 August that the SDF would be dissolved and fully integrated into the institutions of the state.

The official statement contained no reference to the deployment being temporary or confined to a training course, and it made no mention whatsoever of the province remaining under the control of any Kurdish party, which refutes what was circulated.

What Kashaf found

Why is this claim misleading?

A change of context: The claim relied on a real event, the deployment of Internal Security personnel at Talaie camp, then reframed it as a temporary measure for a training purpose separate from the plan to fill the security vacuum announced by the deputy governor of Hasakah, in order to imply that the province is still under the control of the Kurdish forces.
