The truth about a video of a fight over bread near a bakery in Idlib

Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video, claimed by its publishers to be recent, allegedly showing a fight among residents over a quantity of bread near a bakery in Idlib Governorate.

The circulating video of the fight near a bakery

The fact-checking team traced the clip digitally by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search through Google Lens, then tracked the visual fingerprint of the content and compared it with versions previously published on social media. It found that the video is old and goes back to a scuffle and tensions in the town of Kafr Awaid in the Idlib countryside, caused by a demonstration on 15 June 2026 that demanded the expulsion of the former regime members from the town, not a recent incident related to a bread crisis as was promoted.

Why is this claim misleading?

Reposting an old video in a different context: The claim relied on an old clip documenting an earlier incident in Kafr Awaid and re-presented it as a current event tied to a bread crisis, in order to attach the scene to a context different from its reality and mislead the audience.
