Pages on social media circulated a report claiming that remnants of the former regime had carried out an ambush targeting a vehicle belonging to the Syrian army in the city of Tartus, wounding a number of army personnel.
Following up on the report, and by contacting the director of internal security relations in Tartus, the source denied the accuracy of what the circulated posts stated.
The source explained that the incident occurred when a van accidentally collided with two Syrian army personnel, with no injuries recorded.
Why is the report misleading?
Distorted content: The claim reclassified an accidental traffic collision as a deliberate armed act, loading the incident with a security significance it does not carry and placing it within the frame of an ongoing conflict.
