Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video claiming that it documents the emergence of new oil pockets, with oil flowing and bursting spontaneously from underground in the form of springs in the Tal Hamis area of rural Hasakah, without the need for extraction machinery.

The circulating post about oil flowing in Tal Hamis

The Kashaf team checked the video and the accompanying claims. The team had already debunked this claim earlier, on September 8, 2026, when direct contact with a responsible source in the Hasakah Media Directorate showed that the circulating footage does not document the discovery of new oil reservoirs or pockets, but rather damage to the oil transport line running along the "Tal Hamis - Abu Ghadir" road in the governorate's countryside, as a result of sabotage and theft.

Why is this claim misleading?

Changing the context: A video documenting an oil leak caused by the sabotage and theft of a transport line was recycled, and the context of the event was changed to claim that it shows new oil springs and pockets bursting spontaneously in rural Hasakah.
