Accounts on social media circulated a video, with those publishing it claiming that it showed the arrival of Syrian army military reinforcements, accompanied by special units from the Ministry of Defense, at the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The fact-checking team carried out a digital verification that included breaking the clip into still frames and running them through a reverse image search using Google Lens, alongside searching for the original version of the clip and reviewing the context of its first publication. The tracing showed that the video dates to 20 January 2026 and documents a Syrian army reinforcement convoy that set out from the Ras al-Ayn area toward Al-Hasakah province, and not toward the Iraqi-Syrian border as claimed. The Kashaf team had previously fact-checked the same clip on 25 June 2026, although the claim attached to it at that time was different.

Why is this claim misleading?

Out of temporal and geographic context: An older clip was recirculated within a geographic and military context different from its original one, suggesting military movements toward the border with Iraq that the clip does not document.
