No truth to a decree revoking the citizenship of naturalized Syrians

Pages on social media circulated a report claiming that the Civil Registry in Damascus issued a decision revoking Syrian citizenship from 2,243,000 naturalized Shiites, stating that the decision covers Shiites from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and the Gulf states, in addition to Alawites from Turkey, who obtained Syrian citizenship between 2011 and 2024.

The fact-checking team reviewed the official website and accounts of the Syrian Ministry of Interior, as well as the official accounts of the Civil Affairs Directorate known as the Civil Registry, and found no decision, statement or announcement revoking Syrian citizenship from the numbers cited in the post.

Why is this claim false?

Fabricating administrative decrees: A decision that never appeared on any of its official platforms was attributed to the Civil Registry, in order to suggest the existence of an official measure that was never issued.
