Social media pages circulated a video clip claimed to be recent and to document armed clashes inside As-Suwayda governorate between groups affiliated with Hikmat al-Hijri.

The Kashaf team ran a digital trace that included splitting the video into still frames and subjecting them to reverse search, alongside analysing visual elements and searching keywords tied to the circulating scenes. It found the video is old, dating to 6 May 2019. The clip documents gunfire into the air and a security deployment in the Shafa Badran area north of the Jordanian capital Amman following a local killing, and bears no relation to events in As-Suwayda governorate.

Why is this claim misleading?

Outside its temporal and geographic context: An old video filmed in Jordan in 2019 was recirculated with an incorrect claim tying it to current events in Syria.
