The truth about an image of Defense Ministry helicopters evacuating the Sukhna accident casualties

Pages and accounts on social media circulated an image claiming it documents Ministry of Defense helicopters taking part in a medical evacuation of the casualties of the Sukhna accident on the Damascus to Deir ez-Zor road and transferring them to Homs military hospital.

The circulating image attributed to the Sukhna accident evacuation

The Kashaf team traced the image digitally through reverse search, reviewing its publication history and comparing it with official materials about the incident, and found that while it is true that Ministry of Defense helicopters took part in evacuating the injured, the attached image is old, having been previously published on 5 February 2026 in the context of the return of air activity to Deir ez-Zor military airport after years of suspension, and does not document the evacuation linked to the Sukhna accident.

Why is this claim misleading?

Out of temporal context: An old image dating to February 2026 was paired with a true report about a later evacuation, to suggest it documents the evacuation of the Sukhna accident casualties despite being unrelated to it.
