Pages and accounts on social media circulated an image claiming to show the director of the Qamishli district, Jian Saeed, with a portrait of Abdullah Ocalan behind her inside her office while at work.
The Kashaf team subjected the circulating image to digital examination and analysis and detected indicators of manipulation, including visual distortions in the fingers and an unnatural difference in the proportions of some features of the Abdullah Ocalan portrait, such as the size of the ears compared with the original reference. Returning to open sources and tracing the origin of the image, the team found that it was taken from a clip aired by Al-Thamina (Channel 8) on 23 July 2026 documenting the handover ceremony in which Jian Saeed took office, and that a portrait of Abdullah Ocalan was later added digitally into the background of the scene.
Why is this claim misleading?
Digitally altered content: The original image was manipulated and a visual element absent from the source was added, in order to imply a link between the local official and Abdullah Ocalan and to stir controversy over her leanings.
