Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video alleging that it shows a Syrian mother finding the remains of her son and embracing his skull after his absence for years in Syria.
The Kashaf team traced the clip, breaking it into still images and running a reverse search on them, and found that the narrative is inaccurate and its details were distorted. The clip was filmed in the Gaza Strip in Palestine, and it documents the moment a Palestinian mother found the remains of the body of her son there, not in Syria as was promoted in the circulating posts.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of its geographic context: A clip documenting a human tragedy was taken out of its real geographic context in the Gaza Strip and re-circulated as if it took place in Syria.
