A post circulating on social media carried a statement attributed to Mustafa Karasu, a member of the executive council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), framed as a threat of military intervention and reaching the Syrian capital.
Kashaf’s verification team identified a captioned statement shared across pages and accounts and attributed to Mustafa Karasu, claiming the organization intended to intervene militarily and reach the heart of Damascus. The team traced the statement back to its origin on Ronahi TV, broadcast on 12 May 2026, and by comparing the circulated graphic with the original found that the image had been digitally manipulated. The examination showed that the phrase “We will be forced to intervene and reach the heart of Damascus” had been added to the original text, which spoke only about the importance of serious political steps for integration and dialogue; Karasu made no military threat and made no mention of reaching Damascus.
Why is this claim misleading?
Digital manipulation and added text: Ronahi TV’s original news graphic was altered and a sentence that does not exist in Mustafa Karasu’s actual statement was inserted, completely changing the meaning of his remarks and giving them a threatening character contrary to the truth.
