Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it documented an incursion by the Israeli army into the Damascus countryside with a large welcome from the village's residents.
The fact-checking team examined the circulating video by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse search to establish its reality, and it emerged that the video is old and was used outside its temporal and spatial context, with no connection to any incursion into the Damascus countryside. The results showed that the video had previously been published on 17/07/2025 and was filmed in the Druze-majority villages near the border of the occupied Golan.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of its temporal and geographic context: A video dating to 17/07/2025 was recycled and its spatial and temporal context changed in order to claim that it documents a recent Israeli incursion into the Damascus countryside.
