Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it documented a car crashing into a shop because a child was driving it in Idlib province.

The fact-checking team traced the video by breaking it down into still frames and running reverse image searches on them, and reviewed archived copies of the material against the sources that had published it earlier. The tracing showed that the scenes come from an incident that took place in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on 12 August 2026, and not in Idlib, where a minor driving the car lost control of it before it crashed into a shop with a number of people inside, leaving several of them with moderate injuries and no deaths recorded.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of geographic context: The claim rested on a genuine video that was moved from where it took place in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and attributed to Idlib province, suggesting that the incident had occurred in northern Syria.
