Patrols from the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Hama seized a warehouse producing local arak that had been operating inside the kitchen of a religious shrine in the village of Baysin in the western Hama countryside. During the raid they found around 20 barrels of fermented grapes prepared for processing, along with state-owned electrical cables that had been readied for trafficking.

The directorate impounded the seized materials and barrels, and issued a supply violation report against the person responsible for the operation, in preparation for referring the file to the competent authority.
Scope of the measure
The directorate confirmed that the measure was confined exclusively to the unlicensed production site inside the kitchen, and did not extend to the religious shrine itself or to those who visit it.
