Pages on social media circulated a video clip they said was recent and documented news coverage broadcast by "Al-Hadath" channel about groups of the Popular Mobilization Forces fleeing after alleged threats by President Ahmed al-Sharaa against Iraq.

Kashaf subjected the clip to a digital trace that included searching for its original version and comparing it with the circulated content, and found that it dates to May 2025 and pertains to a news report broadcast by "Al-Hadath" channel about the drop of the dollar against the Syrian lira following US President Donald Trump's announcement of lifting sanctions on Syria. The verification also showed that the clip had undergone audio manipulation in which the word "drop" was replaced with the word "fleeing" while keeping the footage and news template, changing the report's content and creating the impression that it addressed groups of the Popular Mobilization Forces fleeing.
Why is this claim misleading?
Digitally edited content: The audio of an original media item was manipulated by swapping a single word, altering the report's meaning and true context and creating the false impression that it was linked to security events in Iraq to which it has no connection.
