Accounts on social media circulated a video claiming it documents a violent arrest of a person in the Esh al-Warwar neighborhood in Damascus, stating that the incident took place in Syria.

The Kashaf team traced the clip through a reverse search and an analysis of its visual elements, and found that the video is old and does not date back to Syria. It documents an arrest carried out by the police in Peru. A review of the footage revealed clear visual indicators, including the official uniforms of the officers and the type of vehicles used, details that match the police forces of Peru and differ from their counterparts in Syria.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and geographic context: An old clip from Peru was re-shared as documenting an incident in the Esh al-Warwar neighborhood in Damascus, giving the false impression that it occurred in Syria, contrary to its original context.
