Accounts on social media circulated a report claiming that protests took place inside the headquarters of the Syrian army's Division 40 in the Khirbet al-Shayyab area of rural Damascus, following a decision to dissolve Division 40 and discharge a number of its members.

Kashaf's correspondent in Daraa governorate contacted a number of Division 40 officials, who denied that any protests took place at the division's headquarters and also denied that the division had been dissolved, stressing that the administrative arrangements applied relate to merging military divisions into the corps that have been formed. The officials also denied any arbitrary discharge of members, stressing that a number of members were indeed dismissed recently because of their links to service in the army of the fallen regime.
Why is this claim misleading?
Official denial by the party concerned: Division 40 officials denied that protests took place inside the division's headquarters, that the division was dissolved, or that its members were arbitrarily discharged, explaining that a number of members were dismissed because of their links to service in the army of the fallen regime.
