Accounts and pages on social media circulated a report whose publishers claimed that explosions occurred inside Damascus International Airport, caused by an unidentified airstrike amid rising columns of fire and smoke.

The Kashaf team verified the circulating reports by contacting the platform's correspondent in Damascus directly, and found that the reports were inaccurate and had been misused: Damascus International Airport saw no strike or explosions; instead, the explosion occurred at the "Tishreen Thermal Power Station" in the Damascus countryside, due to a fault and an explosion in one of the gas lines inside the station.
In this context, the "Syrian Electricity Company" explained that the explosion cut off gas supplies and took the "Deir Ali, Nasiriyah and Tishreen" power generation stations out of service. The company said specialized teams were continuing to work to extinguish the fire, noting that the stations going offline would temporarily reduce the amount of power generated and increase rationing hours.
Why is this claim misleading?
False connection: The claim promoted an airstrike targeting Damascus International Airport, ignoring that the incident was limited to a gas line explosion at the Tishreen Thermal Power Station in the Damascus countryside.
