Accounts and pages on social media circulated a statement attributed to the presidential team spokesman Ahmed Hilali, alleging he said that the Kurdish component constitutes the majority in the city of Hasakah and that the SDF is the major force in the region.
The Kashaf team reviewed the full statement issued by the Hasakah Media Directorate and found a difference between the content of the original statements and the circulating version. Hilali noted that Kurds are the largest component among the minorities in the region, without describing them as the majority in the city of Hasakah, and described the SDF as the actual controller on the ground in the context of describing the field reality and the Kurdish forces, not as the major force in the region as was attributed to him.
Why is this claim misleading?
Distorting the content: The claim relied on rephrasing the original statement in a way that changed its meaning, attributing to Hilali phrases that were not in his words, in order to suggest positions different from those in the official statement.
