Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video, with its publishers claiming it documents an official announcement by SDF leader Mazloum Abdi dissolving the force and fully joining the ranks of the Syrian army.
The verification team examined the circulating clip, broke it down into still frames, and ran a reverse-image search to verify its origin. The claim turned out to be misleading and the clip fabricated and technically edited: the results showed that the original video comes from an old interview Abdi gave to Al Hurra channel, published on September 8, 2023. In that interview Abdi spoke about paths toward a comprehensive political solution in Syria, and at no point did he announce dissolving his forces or merging them into the Syrian army.
Why is this claim misleading?
