Syrian activist Ayman Abdel Nour published an image he claimed documented an Israeli strike on a weapons depot in Aleppo, relying on "reports" he said indicated the raid was carried out in the context of pressure on the Syrian government and Turkey, and describing it as a new setback for both.

The circulating post claiming a strike on a weapons depot in Aleppo

The Kashaf team verified the claim by reviewing official Syrian sources, international news agencies and newspapers, and Israeli media and official sources, and found nothing establishing that the explosions in Aleppo resulted from Israeli shelling. On examining the circulated image, the Kashaf team spotted a Gemini marking in the lower corner, indicating the use of an artificial intelligence tool in creating or editing it, and therefore it cannot be relied upon as original documentation of the incident.

By contrast, the Syrian Arab News Agency "SANA" reported an explosion at a Syrian army site in the vicinity of the town of Al-Eis south of Aleppo, followed by the sound of successive explosions, with a security alert and an evacuation of the area, without specifying the cause of the explosions or attributing them to Israel.

Why is this claim misleading?
