Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video clip, with its publishers claiming that it documents residents opening fire on an oil tanker on the "M4" international road in Deir ez-Zor and setting it ablaze, in an expression of their anger at rising fuel prices and at being deprived of oil.

The Kashaf team verified the circulating clip by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search, alongside a review of sources and news reports, and found that the video was used outside its actual and geographic context. It in fact shows an oil tanker burning and its driver dying as a result of a traffic accident that took place near the village of Tell Shanan in the Al-Hasakah countryside, according to what the "Syrian Al-Ikhbariya" channel published, and the incident has no connection to any armed attack.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of geographic context: The claim relied on a clip documenting an oil tanker burning as a result of a traffic accident in the Al-Hasakah countryside, and changed its geographic and temporal context to suggest that the fire resulted from deliberate gunfire on the "M4" international road in Deir ez-Zor.
