Accounts on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it showed members of "Jolani's forces", in reference to Syrian government forces, forcing a citizen to bark because he had protested against rising fuel prices, with the accounts claiming the video was filmed in Raqqa governorate.
The Kashaf fact-checking team followed the report and ran a reverse image search on the clip, which showed that it had been published earlier, on January 22, 2026, as showing Syrian government forces forcing a member of the SDF to bark. The team was unable to determine conclusively whether the claim made in the older video was accurate.
Why is this claim misleading?
Republishing an old video in a different context: An earlier clip was recirculated after being taken out of its temporal and topical context and linked to the fuel price protests, in order to suggest a recent incident that the footage does not document.
