Pages on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it documented a protest that took place yesterday in the city of Idlib demanding the downfall of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

The fact-checking team traced the clip digitally by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search on them, alongside checking the time archive of the circulating content. The results showed the clip dates to 16 April 2024 and documents a protest in the town of Taftanaz in the Idlib countryside, which rules out any link to current events.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal context: An old clip dating to 2024 was recirculated as an event that took place yesterday, to suggest that a recent protest had taken place in the city of Idlib demanding the downfall of the Syrian president.
