Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it was recent and that it documented the killing of Syrian fighters by the Ansar Allah group in Yemen.
The fact-checking team traced the claim by breaking the video into still frames and running a reverse image search on them, alongside reviewing the archival timeline of the content. The trace turned up a copy of the video published on March 3, 2020, which disproves that it is recent.
Why is this claim misleading?
An old video reposted in a different context: Archival material first published in 2020 was repurposed and tied to an incident different from its original context, in order to suggest a recent field event that has not been verified.
