Accounts on social media circulated a video claiming it documented the deteriorating conditions of government hospitals in Syria, showing rats moving inside one of the patient rooms and climbing over intravenous drip tubes and beds.

The fact-checking team at Kashaf carried out a digital trace that included extracting still frames from the video and examining them through reverse image search, alongside reviewing results linked to the clip, tracing its earliest appearance on social platforms and comparing its publication date with the context that accompanied its circulation, and found that the video was filmed in India, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and dates back to 15 January 2026, where it documented the decline in services and cleanliness inside a patients ward at a government hospital there.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and geographic context: The clip was taken from a government hospital in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and presented as being from inside government hospitals in Syria, using real footage out of place to suggest a deterioration in Syrian health services and to mislead public opinion.
