Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed that it documents the testimony of someone injured in the clashes that took place between residents of the Jdeidet Artouz area and people from Deir ez-Zor.

The fact-checking team followed up on the circulating claim through a keyword search, and it turned out that the video was taken out of its correct context. The clip belongs to the Syrian activist Hussein Hajj Hussein, who appeared in it to explain the reality of the events in Jdeidet Artouz, noting at the beginning of his remarks that he was ill, and never mentioning that he had been injured during those events. A review of the activist's account also showed that he had previously published, before the Jdeidet Artouz incident took place, a post explaining that he had been in a serious road accident while travelling from Mecca to Medina, which left him with several fractures and led to his admission to hospital for treatment.

Why is this claim misleading?

An incorrect connection: A clip of an activist explaining the course of events was exploited, and his earlier injury resulting from a road traffic accident was linked to the Jdeidet Artouz clashes, in order to suggest that he was one of those injured in them.
