Pages on social media circulated a video clip that those posting it claimed was recent, and that it documented people from Deir ez-Zor assaulting a young man in Jdeidet Artouz.

Circulated post showing a video clip attributed to Jdeidet Artouz

Following up on the report, Kashaf carried out a digital trace of the clip that included breaking it into still frames and running a reverse search on them, alongside a review of the timestamps of posts linked to the video.

The trace turned up an older copy of the clip published on 08/08/2026, that is before the recent events in Jdeidet Artouz, while posts linked to the older copy showed the video was being circulated at the time in a different context.

Why is the report misleading?

Out of temporal context: The claim tied earlier footage to a time and place different from the context in which it appeared, suggesting it documented a recent incident in Jdeidet Artouz.
