Numerous accounts on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it showed an Israeli soldier buying from a vendor inside Syria.
Following up on the circulated clip, the Kashaf verification team carried out digital tracing that included converting the video into still frames and running a reverse image search on them, and found that the video was published on YouTube on 16 December 2021.
The verification showed that the clip documents an Israeli soldier buying bread from a Palestinian vendor in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the accounts and channels that published it at the time, and that it is not connected to Syria as stated in the circulated claim.
Why is this news misleading?
False context: the video is genuine, but it does not document an event that took place in Syria; it was filmed in the occupied Palestinian territories and had already been published in December 2021.
