Accounts on social media circulated a video clip whose publishers claimed it showed a person threatening three children from the Alawite community on the Syrian coast with a bladed weapon.
The Kashaf team followed up on the circulated claim and subjected the clip to a digital verification process that included analysing the content, converting it into still frames and running a reverse search to trace its digital footprint. This showed that the video was taken out of its true temporal and spatial context and has no connection to the Syrian coast: the results showed the clip dates to an incident that took place in Lebanon on 01/01/2014, in which a young man from the town of "Abba" in Nabatieh threatened three Syrian refugee children with slaughter under the pretext of "joking", before Lebanese security forces intervened and arrested him.
Returning to the Kashaf database, it emerged that the team had previously debunked the same clip on 03/07/2026 after it circulated with different claims.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and spatial context: a clip dating to 2014 documenting the threatening of Syrian refugee children in Lebanon was republished and presented as documenting the threatening of Alawite children on the Syrian coast.
