Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video clip whose publishers claimed it is recent and documents training by the Syrian army.
Kashaf followed up on the report and carried out digital tracing of the clip, including extracting still frames and subjecting them to reverse search, reviewing archived results and comparing the circulated copies with the original material. The verification showed that the video dates back to 14/11/2019 and had been circulated at the time as having been filmed in Turkey, which rules out any connection to Syrian army training as stated in the claim.
Why is the report misleading?
False context: The clip is old and was re-presented in a context different from its original one, having previously been circulated as filmed in Turkey in 2019.
