Reuters, citing three informed people, reported that Israeli intelligence chief "Roman Gofman" held a phone call with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani on 14/08/2026.

During the call the two sides discussed the question of the Turkish military presence in Syria. The step came a few days before Israel launched airstrikes targeting a Syrian military air base in the north of the country on Tuesday.
The agency noted that the Israeli prime minister's office, as well as the spokesperson for Minister al-Shaibani, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
