The fact-checking team traced the clip by extracting still frames from it and running a reverse image search using "Google Lens", and found that the video is old and unrelated to the Syrian desert. The results showed that the clip had previously been published on 05/04/2024, and in fact relates to the phenomenon of abundant groundwater in the aquifer shared between Tunisia and Algeria.

Why is this claim misleading?

Out of temporal and geographic context: An old clip of groundwater flowing in the aquifer shared between Tunisia and Algeria was republished and attributed to a sulfur well in the Syrian desert, to suggest a new local event that did not take place.
