Accounts on social media circulated a video clip of a young man warning against travel to Syria, against the background of what were described as "fears of arrest and torture", and calling for protest gatherings outside Syrian embassies in Europe, to demand guarantees for the safety of returnees and a response to the protesters' demands.

The Kashaf team followed up on the claim and carried out a digital trace of the clip, which included converting it into still frames and subjecting them to a reverse search via Google Lens. This led to an original version published on the page of activist Amir al-Hajj. Comparing the two versions showed that the circulating clip underwent an alteration of its audio track, with the original audio replaced by another track.
Examination using the "HIVE MODERATION" tool also showed indicators that the clip had undergone processing with artificial intelligence techniques at a rate of 69%.
Why is the news misleading?
Digitally altered content: The circulating video underwent a digital alteration affecting its audio track, and it does not reflect the content of the original version published on activist Amir al-Hajj's page.
