Pages and accounts on social media circulated posts claiming that the young doctor Aya Khalil Khadr had been kidnapped and killed by elements affiliated with the Syrian government.
The Kashaf team traced the origin of the first obituary and searched open sources, and found that the doctor had died following her struggle with illness. Obituaries issued by her family and the residents of her village of Douweir al-Malouaa in Tartous province, along with the obituary published by Tartous University, all matched the locally circulated details of the death and showed that she had passed away after a struggle with illness, with no indications or evidence supporting the claims that she had been kidnapped or killed.
