Several accounts and pages on social media circulated a video claiming it documented the moment a Syrian citizen bid farewell to his family after being kidnapped by forces affiliated with the Syrian government.
The fact-checking team ran a reverse image search after breaking the clip into still frames and found that it was taken out of its true time frame; the video dates to 28 June 2013 and originally documents Free Syrian Army factions arresting a member of the deposed regime's forces, with no connection to any recent kidnapping of civilians.
Why is this claim misleading?
