Accounts on social media circulated a video posted by Maher Sharaf al-Din claiming it showed Israeli occupation soldiers humiliating a number of women in Syria.
The fact-checking team traced the clip through a digital investigation that included a reverse image search using Google Lens, analysis of the visual scenes, and matching the location details and timeline against open sources, and found that the video is not from Daraa province but documents an Israeli occupation forces assault on Palestinians in the Masafer Yatta area of the southern West Bank on 9 July 2026; the team had previously debunked the clip when it circulated with the same claim.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and geographic context: A video documenting events in the West Bank was reshared as though it were linked to events in Syria, removing the incident from its original place and time to mislead the public about what is happening in the country.
