Pages and accounts on social media circulated images claiming they document the Israeli army bulldozing a cemetery inside Syrian territory.

The fact-checking team ran a reverse image search and found that the images are old, previously published on 29 January 2026 in an Al Jazeera report about the al-Batsh cemetery in the al-Tuffah neighborhood of the Gaza Strip, covering the Israeli army exhuming graves to recover the body of one of its soldiers. The team also examined the images digitally using Sightengine, a tool specialized in detecting AI-generated content, and the results showed they are digitally generated and not real.

Why is this claim misleading?
Out of geographic context: AI-generated expressive images tied to a report about the Gaza Strip were lifted and repurposed to suggest they document the Israeli army bulldozing a cemetery inside Syrian territory, conflating two different events and misleading audiences.
