Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video claiming it documents a group described by its posters as the Hijri militia evicting Alawite families from officers housing in the governorate of Suwayda and throwing them into the streets, alleging that injuries occurred and some were taken to hospitals.
The fact-checking team traced the clip digitally by breaking it into still frames, running a multi-source reverse image search, and matching the results against the archive timeline and the original publication date. It emerged that the video was published on 23 December 2025 and documents the arrest of a person involved in stealing a motorcycle after its owner managed to catch him, with no connection to the events promoted in the circulating claim.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal context: The claim relied on lifting an old clip from December 2025 out of its original context and repurposing it as documentation of a sectarian eviction in Suwayda, in order to suggest an event that did not happen as alleged and to mislead public opinion.
