Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video whose publishers claimed it documents the Lebanese president announcing approval to open the border with Syria and allow Syrians to enter Lebanon without any fees.
The Kashaf team compared the circulating clip with the original recording of the speech. The audio and visual analysis showed that the lip movements did not match the audio content, alongside technical indicators that the audio had been re-synced after the video was edited. The comparison also showed that the circulating statement does not appear in the original speech, confirming that a different audio track was added to the clip.
Why is this claim misleading?
Digitally altered content: The claim relied on a clip whose audio track was manipulated and re-synced to attribute to the Lebanese president a statement that was not in his original speech, in order to suggest an official decision to open the border and cancel entry fees.
